Synopsis

Hollywood star Shirley Jones joins the ranks of performers to appear as part of Waltham's Reagle Players' Celebrity Series. She is joined by the fabulous trio of musicians and singers - The Manhattan Rhythm Kings - closely associated with Tommy Tune in his Broadway appearances and nationwide tours.

A veteran of over 35 films and countless television appearances -- including her own series -- Ms. Jones won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Elmer Gantry. In that film she "played against type" as the earthy Lulu Bains. She played opposite Burt Lancaster, an Oscar nominee for his performance in the titular role of the galvanizing evangelist, eventually seduced by fame.

In her Reagle appearance Shirley, backed by an onstage orchestra, promises to deliver on a host of classic songs and personal favorites.

For movie fans, classic television buffs and musical theatre aficionados, this concert promises to be an exciting entertainment experience. Besides the sounds of her beautiful music and the vocal and instrumental talents of the Manhattan Rhythm Kings, Shirley brings with her an aura of the heyday of musical theater's Golden Age, memories of the popular Partridge Family as well as echoes of the feisty Laurey in Oklahoma!, the hapless Julie in Carousel and the perspicacious Marian in The Music Man. All of these screen personas, and much more, are present onstage in the sweet, warm and appealing star that is Shirley Jones -- a woman whose vocal and interpretive talents made her one of America's most beloved movie musical heroines of the ages.
