Synopsis
The season commences with a Washington premiere of British playwright Steven Berkoff's adaptation of the absurdist masterpiece, The Trial by Czech author Franz Kafka. The Trial is widely regarded as one of the world's great masterpieces, as Joseph K. struggles to save his life in a "trial" in which he is guilty of an unnamed crime. His only known "crime" is that of existence. The play will be staged by Scena artistic director Robert McNamara at the Warehouse Theatre. This production continues Scena Theatre's collaborations with the works of Mr. Berkoff that include productions of Greek (1998) and The Fall of the House of Usher, which Scena theatre presented in Washington (2003), Berlin, and Vienna (2004).
