Synopsis
In The Merchant of Venice, Shylock, one of Shakespeare's most eloquent and convincing antagonists, fights for his dignity, his gold, and the vengeance that outweighs them both. Bassanio's wooing of fair Portia tests the faith, honor and justice between young lovers and traditional enemies, setting up a courtroom showdown that reveals more than it resolves.
