(© Sharon Wharton) | Casting information has been announced for the Rough and Tumble production of Candide, August 29-September 21, Len Jenkin's adaptation of Voltaire's sardonically satiric masterpiece. With direction by Cliff Mayotte, this production will include original music by Bay Area jazz composer Phillip Greenlief.
Through Voltaire's humor, this production will explore the current moment in history as it is wracked by religious fundamentalism, government corruption, and war. The cast will feature Louise Chegwidden, Carolyn Doyle, Janet Keller, Éowyn Mader, and Stewart Evan Smith.
Jenkin won an Obie award for his plays Limbo Tales and Five of Us. His other works include Dark Ride, Careless Love, My Uncle Sam, The Dream Express, and Like I Say. His films include Blame It on the Night, Welcome to Oblivion, and American Notes.
