 | | Christopher Durang | The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced two new productions to its schedule.
At the American Airlines Theatre, it will present the hit British comedy, The 39 Steps, December 28-March 16, with an official opening scheduled for January 10. Directed by Maria Aitken, the production is adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan.
In the play, all the characters are played by just four actors. While casting was not announced, the show is a co-production with Boston's Huntington Theatre, where the show premieres on September 14 starring Charles Edwards, who appeared in the show's London production, along with Arnie Burton, Jennifer Ferrin, and Cliff Saunders.
In 2008, the Roundabout will present a new production of Christopher Durang's comedy The Marriage of Bette and Boo, June 13-September 7 at the Laura Pels Theatre. Tony winner Walter Bobbie will direct the production. Casting and design team will be announced at a later date.
In addition, full casting has been announced for the upcoming national tour of Twelve Angry Men, directed by Scott Ellis. In addition to previously announced star Richard Thomas, as Juror 8, the cast will feature Mike Boland, Charles Borland, Todd Cerveris, Kevin Dobson, Julian Gamble, Thomas Gebbia, Jeffrey Hayenga, David Lively, Alan Mandell, Mark Morettini, Mike DiSalvo, and Tony Ward.
The new 19-city tour will begin in Lexington, Kentucky on October 5, and include stops in Tampa, San Antonio, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, Costa Mesa, Hartford, Nashville, and Fort Lauderdale, among other cities. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 1, 2008.
Finally, in related news, Tony Award-winning director Doug Hughes has been named the company's resident director, which means he will be a part-time year-round artistic advisor for Roundabout productions. This new position was created to provide an additional voice for the company's artistic director, Todd Haimes, and his colleagues.
